No One Has Ever Un-Apologized Harder Than Nick Cannon

No One Has Ever Un-Apologized Harder Than Nick Cannon

As host of The Masked Singer, Nick Cannon isn't required to wear an elaborate costume and mask on stage like the contestants of the show. However, Cannon went through an unmasking anyway as recent comments made on his podcast "Cannon Class" have gotten him in more hot water than an egg about to be boiled.

Among his comments were allegations that those without sufficient melanin are "a little less, and, as such, were forced to commit acts of violence in order to survive. He then says, "they had to be savages, referring to, "Jewish people, white people, Europeans" and others. His guest former Public Enemy member "Professor Griff" also defends past remarks where he claims Jews are responsible for "the majority of wickedness that goes on across the globe," and Cannon responds saying, "you're speaking facts."

Yesterday, ViacomCBS cut ties with Nick Cannon. Referring to Jewish people as savages, or really anyone, is never a good look, but it's especially problematic when it echoes the justification Hitler used to attempt to exterminate the Jewish people and comes in the wake of DeSean Jackson's anti-sematic comments and also a record number of anti-Semitic incidents and crime occurring within the US last year.

But what makes this whole incident so weird is, that while Cannon initially posted an apology ...

... he has since backtracked on that apology.

It's a long post where he flips the script around, demanding an apology from Viacom and it's all very intense. If you don't have time to read then  here is one choice quote just to give you a feel for it:

"Viacom's goal to keep me from providing for my family and lineage will be foiled. They can try to kick me while I'm down or force me to kiss the master's feet in public for shame and ridicule, but instead I stand firm on my square with my fist in the air repeating my mantra, "You can't fire a Boss!"

Woah. I'm no financial planner, but I think it is hard to allege that Viacom is in an active effort to deny Nick Cannon from providing for his family when they've already paid him multiple millions of dollars. Cannon then also says, when referring to Jewish clergy members and rabbis who have reached out to offer him education and help:

"I am excited to announce that I have been invited to Israel which is a lifelong dream where I will receive teachings, lessons and truth about the Jewish history. As someone who is in pursuit for my PHD in Theology and Divinity and just received a degree in Criminal Justice from the Great Howard University, this will be an enriching, enlightening and overall exciting trip!"

Clearly this was an effort at reconciliation for Nick Cannon, and he took that opportunity and treated it like he just won a sweepstakes vacation to Israel. In fact, Cannon is digging his heels in so deep that he's up to his hips. It's bizarre too because if Cannon took the time to maybe listen to others and engage in a dialogue, as DeSean Jackson did with Julian Edelman, then perhaps some of these problems would go away. Or he can just keep tripling down on social media and let us all see where this wild ride goes.

Support Dan on Twitter and he will talk about his life with you in lieu of getting a therapist.
